Discover the Delight of Royal Orange Chicken

Are you ready to embark on a culinary journey that combines the sweet and savory flavors of Royal Tru Orange soda with crispy fried chicken? Look no further than Royal Orange Chicken, a mouthwatering dish that promises to tantalize your taste buds. In this recipe blog post, we’ll guide you through the steps to create this delectable treat in your own kitchen.

Preparing the Chicken

The first step in crafting your Royal Orange Chicken masterpiece is to prepare the chicken wings. Follow these simple instructions:

Divide and Conquer: Begin by dividing each chicken wing into two pieces – the drumettes and the wingettes. This ensures even cooking and allows the flavors to infuse every bite.

Marinating Magic: Place the chicken pieces in a mixing bowl and add a dash of calamansi juice, a splash of patis (fish sauce), and a pinch of black pepper powder. Gently massage the chicken to help the marinade penetrate the meat fully.

Cover and Rest: Cover the mixing bowl and let the chicken marinate for about 10 minutes. This short resting period allows the flavors to meld and infuse the chicken with a delightful tanginess.

Creating the Royal Orange Syrup

The heart of Royal Orange Chicken lies in its unique syrup, created using Royal Tru Orange soda. Follow these steps to concoct the sweet elixir:

Soda Magic: In an empty pot, pour in the Royal Tru Orange soda. Add the sugar and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.

Reduce and Intensify: Allow the soda to simmer until it reduces to about one-fourth of its initial volume. For every liter of soda, you’ll end up with approximately 250ml of concentrated orange goodness.

Coating and Frying the Chicken

Now that you have your marinated chicken and luscious orange syrup ready, it’s time to coat and fry the chicken to crispy perfection:

Double Crunch: Combine cornstarch and flour in a small plastic bag and give it a good shake. This mixture will provide the crispy coating for your chicken.

Coat and Shake: Add the marinated chicken pieces into the plastic bag filled with the flour-cornstarch mixture. Shake vigorously to ensure an even coating on each piece.

Frying Time: Heat up cooking oil in a pan until it’s sizzling hot. Carefully fry the chicken until it reaches a glorious golden brown hue. Once done, remove the chicken from the pan and allow it to cool slightly.

Double Fry Magic: Heat the cooking oil again and return the chicken to the pan, this time on high heat, for a few seconds. This double frying technique will give your chicken that extra crispiness.

Toss and Serve: Place the crispy chicken into the pot containing the Royal Tru Orange syrup. Toss the chicken until it’s evenly coated with the sweet, tangy goodness of the syrup. Let it cool for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld, and then it’s ready to serve.

Final Thoughts on Royal Orange Chicken

Royal Orange Chicken is a delightful fusion of sweet and savory flavors that will elevate your fried chicken game to a whole new level. Whether you’re preparing it for a special occasion or a casual dinner at home, this dish is sure to impress your friends and family.

Notes

Cooking Tips of Royal Orange Chicken:

1. Perfect Crispy Coating: Achieving that crispy coating on your Royal Orange Chicken is crucial. To ensure it's crispy, double frying is key. Fry once until golden, cool briefly, then fry again on high heat for extra crunch.
2. Balancing Sweetness: The sweetness of Royal Orange Chicken can be adjusted to your liking. If it's too sweet, reduce the amount of sugar in the syrup. Conversely, if you want it sweeter, add a bit more sugar during syrup preparation.
3. Marinate for Flavor: Don't rush the marination process. Allowing the chicken to marinate in calamansi juice, patis, and black pepper for at least 10 minutes ensures the flavors penetrate the meat, creating a tastier end result.
