Sautéing the Perfect Cabbage

Begin by preparing the ingredients and slicing the cabbage into thin strips, ensuring to remove the tough stem from the center. Set aside while you prepare the shrimp.

Enhancing Flavor with Shrimp Broth

To extract maximum flavor from the shrimp, remove the heads and shells, reserving the shelled shrimp. Boil the shrimp heads and shells in a pot with water for about 5 minutes. Allow the mixture to cool, then mash the heads and shells using a ladle or masher. Strain the liquid using a strainer, discarding the shells, and reserve the shrimp juice for later use.

Creating the Aromatic Base

In a pan or wok, heat cooking oil and sauté garlic and onion until fragrant. Add the shrimps and sauté until they turn pink, indicating they are cooked through.

Adding Depth with Vegetables:

Incorporate carrots into the mix and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes. The carrots add a hint of sweetness and vibrant color to the dish, complementing the savory shrimp and cabbage.

Infusing Flavor with Oyster Sauce

Add oyster sauce to the pan and stir to combine. This umami-rich sauce adds depth and enhances the overall flavor profile of the dish.

Simmering to Perfection

Introduce the sliced cabbage and reserved shrimp juice to the pan. Allow the mixture to simmer for 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Final Touches and Serving

Cooking Tips :

1. Enhance the Flavor
To enhance the flavor of your sautéed cabbage, try adding a splash of fish sauce or soy sauce during cooking. These ingredients add depth and savory notes to the dish. You can also add a sprinkle of sugar to balance the flavors and enhance the natural sweetness of the cabbage.
2. Perfect the Texture
For the perfect texture, make sure not to overcook the cabbage. It should be tender yet still slightly crisp. Overcooking can result in a mushy texture. Also, be sure to cut the cabbage into uniform strips for even cooking.
3. Customize to Your Taste
Feel free to customize your cabbage recipe to suit your taste preferences. You can add other vegetables like bell peppers or green beans for added color and flavor. You can also adjust the seasoning by adding more or less oyster sauce, salt, and pepper according to your liking.
