Korean Style Street Fried Chicken

Are you looking for a simple Korean fried chicken recipe that contains easy to find and very few ingredients? You will be surprised how easy it is to cook a Korean style street fried chicken without the hard to find ingredients such as potato flour or roasted soy bean flour which you can only find in a Korean grocery stores. With just a very few and basic ingredients you can imitate those mouth watering Korean street fried chicken shown on Youtube. This might not exactly taste like the authentic Korean street fried chicken because they have their secret recipes to cook them. But I assure you this taste delicious and the skin is crispy and light.

How to Cook Korean Style Street Fried Chicken

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 1 small whole dressed chicken

For Brining:

  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 6 tsp. oyster sauce
  • 600 ml water

For the Batter:

  • 1/2 cup + 2 Tbsp. All-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon powder
  • 2 tsp. red chili powder
  • 1 tsp. fine salt
  • 120 ml water

Instructions

How to Cook Korean Style Street Fried Chicken

  • Wash and drain the dressed chicken and remove the tail glands. Cut the breast in the center to make it flat. Remove any remaining innards.
  • Flatten the chicken by pressing the back of the chicken to make it flat. Set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl or any container, combine the brining ingredients: salt, sugar, oyster sauce, water and lemon slices. Stir until the salt and sugar are dissolved.
  • Get a zip lock bag or plastic bag and put in the chicken with the brining solution. Close the bag and remove excess air. Marinate in the refrigerator overnight.
  • After marinating, remove from bag and drain in a colander or rack. Make the batter by combining flour, cinnamon powder, red chili pepper powder, salt and water.
  • Mix the batter ingredients until it becomes smooth. Brush the batter on the entire chicken and set aside.
  • Heat cooking oil in a deep pot and deep fry the chicken for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Prick also the legs and breast with a small knife 5 minutes before the end of cooking time.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce like gravy or catsup.
