Fried Chicken Steak with Pepper Gravy

This is a simple chicken steak which you don’t need to grill because it’s fried. Ingredients are also very basic and simple, you don’t have to search the whole supermarket just to buy an expensive and hard to find items. You can serve this chicken steak with steamed rice, buns or dinner rolls.

To cook chicken steak with pepper gravy; Set up breading station. Place flour, eggs and breadcrumbs in separate pans or shallow bowls. Place the chicken breast fillets in between two pieces of plastic wrap. Using a meat mallet, pound the fillets to an even thickness. Season with salt, pepper and paprika. Dip the fillets in the flour and shake off the excess. Dip in the egg wash, then transfer to the breadcrumbs. Press the crumbs evenly onto the fillets. Place in the chiller to set the breadcrumbs coating. Pan fry the chicken fillets in corn oil until fully cooked and golden brown. Drain off excess oil using paper towels. To see the complete recipe with list of ingredients in exact measurement, look below.

Ingredients
  • 4 chicken breast fillets, trimmed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup Japanese breadcrumbs
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • corn oil, for frying
Creamy Pepper Gravy Ingredients:
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (240 grams)
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 Tbsp. liquid seasonings
  • 1 Tbsp. cracked black peppercorns
  • ½ cup all-purpose cream
Instructions

  7. Drain off excess oil using paper towels. Serve with creamy pepper gravy sauce (see recipe below)
How to make Creamy Pepper Gravy:
  1. Combine the cream of mushroom soup, water and liquid seasoning in a saucepan, set over medium heat.
  2. Simmer the mixture while stirring.
  3. Add the peppercorns and cream and mix very well. Use as gravy on chicken steak.
